Knife, Gerber River Shortie
The Gerber River Shortie is a simple, sturdy kayak or raft safety knife that has stood the test of time and is very popular. The knife features a 3.25" serrated blade with a blunt tip. The sheath is made of "unbreakable" plastic and once it is properly attached to the accessory lash tab on PFD the sheath will not fall/break off. To release the knife from the sheath, you simply grab the knife handle with one hand and pull. The sheath has ratchet teeth the engage in the notches on the side of the knife handle to hold the knife in the sheath when stowed. We recommend adding five tight wraps of electrical tape around the open end of the sheath to give the ratchet teeth more grip on the knife. With this simple modification it is extremely rare to have the knife accidentally pull/fall out.
