HH Shorehike Breathe Kayak Shoe

HH Shorehike Breathe Shoe, kayak boot with drains in the bottom

Basically if you fixed all the things that are wrong with mesh water sport shoes and made them perfect for sea kayaking you would end up with the HH Shorehike Breathe shoe. You'll get over the bright colors once you've used them. Features: a high-top design so they won't fill with gravel just before you launch or slip off when you wiggle your feet in your kayak, mesh drains in the bottom of the soles (see gray mesh on bottom view of sole in photos above) not just a mesh upper (duh!) so water drains out faster than any other water shoe -- no more squish squish when you walk, no more waiting forever for water to drain out of your shoes with getting into your kayak, sole is cut no wider than the foot bed so as to leave more foot room inside your kayak, sole is stiff enough to let you walk on a rocky beach, go for a hike in the woods, and even press against foot-braces all day without pain, yet the sole is thin so your feet won't get crammed inside the kayak, no laces to catch (zipper under the instep cover for ease of entry/exit), good grip, and unlike most high end water shoes, they fit normal feet! They even come in half sizes for great better fit. For warm water paddling you can wear the shoe by itself (though it's best to wear a thin liner sock with any water shoe, otherwise sand in the shoe will irritate your skin), for cold conditions buy the shoe one half size larger than normal and wear a neoprene sock or dry suit dry-sock inside the shoes. This combination makes it about as warm as a wetsuit bootie, but superior in comfort for both walking and paddling. These shoes are so comfortable to walk in that we don't even bring any tennis shoes or sandals on touring trips; instead we wear a pair of wool or polypro socks inside these shoes when we are on shore. A pair of extra shoes or sandals takes up a lot of storage space, so leave them in your car and your kayak be lighter to carry and have room for more goodies.

For decades we've been hoping, looking, buying, testing, trying, every imaginable water shoe in search of something that would fit the needs of sea kayakers, and at last we found a winner!

Unisex sizes: 7 - 12 (with half sizes), and 13.
Women order one full size smaller than regular women's shoe size (unless you plan to wear a neoprene sock inside for added warmth in which case order same size as your regular women's shoe). Color: Red/White
