Rain Hats

OR Seattle Sombrero GoreTex rain/sun kayak hat

OR Gore-Tex Seattle Sombrero

The most popular sea kayaking hat in the world, and well liked for hiking, birding, sailing, camping, etc. too. Works well for both sun and rain. Removable drawcord under chin. When it’s windy the chin cord keeps the hat from flying overboard. For less intense situations, it can easily be untied from the loops above the ears. Long enough so the hat can be dropped down onto the upper back. Longer brim in back than in front. Keeps water from running down your neck; yet, not so long that it gets in the way of a backpack. When the sun comes out the neck is protected from being burned.

The legendary soggy climate of the Pacific Northwest prompted OR to develop this hat for use in a wide assortment of activities. It's great for active wet-weather pursuits such as sea kayaking, backpacking in the rainforest, or swinging a polaski on a rainy trailwork project. The totally seam-sealed Gore-Tex fabric crown prevents entry of any external moisture while also minimizing the accumulation of perspiration. The Seattle Sombrero is so effective that it carries Gore's "Guaranteed To Keep You Dry" certification—not an easy test to pass. Many people find the hoods on their rain jackets to be uncomfortable, tough to hear through, and an impairment to vision. A Seattle Sombrero is a much more comfortable alternative.
