The Outer Island kayak is an Eskimo rolling machine and a fast straight-line touring kayak. The Outer Island is the closest you can get to a true Greenland style kayak without building a skin on frame boat yourself. There are two cockpit sizes/shapes to choose from: keyhole or the more traditional near circular "Ocean Cockpit". The Outer Island is best suited for people who want a kayak that lets them learn and practice Greenland roll techniques and/or paddlers who want fast Geenland style sea kayak for day trips and the occational over nigher. While definitely not a beginner boat, the Outer Island is surprizing for its beam. The Outer Island comes with retractable skeg, day hatch, recessed deck fittings and reflective safety lines, rubber VCP hatches, and a comfortable low profile back band with snowboard binding style ratcheting buckles that allow you to adjust the back support while seated in the kayak -- even on the water.
As with all the Impex sea kayaks we sell, the Outer Island is built from composite (i.e. fiberglass or carbon/Kevlar co-weave lay-up).
