Maligiaq came to the USA in 1998 (with John Heath) as an Ambassador of Greenland Qajaqing and has become the most influential person in the Greenland Qajaq Community worldwide. In 2005, he was involved in the Arctic Peoples' Symposium at the Smithsonian in Washington DC where he built a Greenland Qajaq that is now in the Smithsonian's Collection. Maligiaq has been traveling and teaching around the world for the past 10 years and returned to the USA in the summer of 2008.
