K.A. is in shock as we mourn the loss of our friend, co-worker, and employee Whende Keatts.  After a short battle with colon cancer which seemed under control, Whende died suddenly at home Friday Night 3/20/2020.

Local customers knew her as our amazing office manager;  phone customers knew her as the competent customer service voice on the other end of the line, and we at K.A. knew Whende as an employee who could do just about anything and do it well and as a friend who's humor and caring made our days lighter.

Whende, you are missed and will always be with us!

Whende is survived by her 17-year-old son Andrew, her partner Jon Okami, and Bowie (her golden doodle dog).

Her family has set up a GoFundMe for her son Drew(Andrew).

Whende was my little sister. I’m in complete and utter shock at her passing. She was an absolute wonderful person who touched so many lives. I will miss her sorely. Thank you folks at KA for posting this notice.

I love you Whende.

So well put – all of those words Barb and George. Whende knew your stock and operations like no one else except you. She amazed me with her problem solving and procedural skills, as well as her wielding a hammer and a skill saw, or a dry suit undergoing repair. As I grew to know her personally as the years went along, I found her generosity and sense of humor to be so fine – “First the coffee, then the things”, and “Stop being a %@#T” … I will never forget these things. I am so saddened by this untimely loss … how does something like this happen to good people? I see your face and hear your voice Whende, it is so hard to believe you are an angel, yet in real earthly life you were too. My condolences to Jon, Andrew, and Sean … Bowie too. And all at Kayak Academy, where she WAS the bell-weather. DJ

I consider the staff at Kayak Academy as a kind of extended family. When I call on the phone I will not be hearing her familiar voice on the other side. When I go into the office I will no longer see her familiar and friendly face. Sorry for your and our loss Kayak Academy.
Condolences,
Brian Smith
