Kokatat Women's Legacy Drysuit, GORE TEX PRO w/ Dropseat
Brief Description
Sale now through Oct. 31, 2024 in-stock items only
The Women's Gore-Tex PRO Legacy is replacing Kokatat's GFE-D and will become the foundation of Kokatat's women's drysuit line. It is similar to the men's Legacy except the women's Legacy has a Drop Seat Zipper on the back side instead of a Relief Zipper on the front (see note below for Women's FUD Zipper), and it is designed for a woman's fit. Kokatat understands that women need to be comfortable and they have succeeded in designing a loose fit that conforms nicely to your upper body. So you don't have to buy the next size up to fit your hips! The waist and hips contour your body and allow to you to have good torso rotation and movement for whatever watersport you choose. Kokatat early on recognized the need for a women's fit as you will see in the Women's Legacy's attention to detail.
Detailed Description
The Kokatat Women's Legacy is ideal for most women sea kayakers and sailors, all rafters, kite-boarders, sail boarders, and rowers. You may add most of Kokatat's dry suit options (i.e. Pockets, Reflective Tape, etc.) and/or have us help you order a custom sized suit with the feature(s) you need.
All Kokatat Legacy drysuits have a front entry zipper that runs diagonally across the chest of the suit, making it easy to get in and out of (as opposed to dry suits with rear entry shoulder zippers that require teamwork to get in and out of without breaking the zipper), latex neck and wrist gaskets, neoprene "punch through" neck covers (no more Velcro tab to chafe against your skin) and "hook & loop" wrist cuffs, and neoprene "hook & loop" ankle cuffs with adjustable tab closures to keep gravel out of your booties -- all included standard. Additionally, it comes with a Dropseat Zipper (for speed and convenience when nature calls), Gore-Tex Pro® Dry Socks, and Gore-Tex Pro® Front Entry and Dropseat zipper flaps to protect the zippers. With a basic dry suit, the hardest part of suiting up is bending over and stretching the ankle gasket over your heel, but if your suit has Dry Socks as the Legacy drysuit does, then the drysuit won't have any nasty ankle gaskets, so no problem! So, in addition to being more comfortable because your feet are warmer and dry, a dry suit with Dry Socks is much easier to step in and out of.
One feature that can't be added to the Legacy model drysuit is an overskirt for kayaking. Like the double tunnel on a dry top, an over skirt helps keeps water from entering the cockpit of your kayak when doing rolls or paddling in waves (i.e. surf and river kayaking). If you aren't planning to use the suit for that, then the Legacy is your best dry suit. For dry suits with overskirts, see our selection of Kokatat's Gore-Tex® Meridian GME-D and women's Gore-Tex® Odyssey dry suits. Sea kayakers who practice lots of rolls appreciate an over-skirt, but most sea kayakers don't find the over-skirt worth the extra money. However, for white-water kayaking an overskirt is a virtually necessity (unless you are using an inflatable or other open decked river kayak).

A Note About Dropseats
AÂ Drop Seat Zipper makes it easy to take care of all your relief needs. With the occasional exception of kayakers, most women prefer to use a Drop Seat Zipper rather than an FUD (Feminine Urinary Device) with a Front Relief Zipper. However, Front Relief Zippers are an option even on Women's dry suits.
For some women kayakers, a dry suit with a Drop Seat Zipper can be uncomfortable in certain kayaks. This issue is unique to kayaks because kayak seats have snug fitting sides (hip braces) which, depending on the fit of the dry suit and the kayak seat, may press against the Drop Seat Zipper. With a properly fitted dry suit, most women find a Drop Seat Zipper is comfortable in most kayak seats. Ideally a dry suit will have enough slack around your hips that if a kayak seat presses the Drop Seat Zipper against your body, you can move the slack in the suit around to get the zipper up out of the way. If this doesn't work for you (and you are sure the suit isn't too small in the hips), we recommend a dry suit with a Women's FUD Front Relief Zipper instead of a Drop Seat Zipper.
We stock women's dry suits with FUD Front Relief Zippers -- see our Kayak Academy K.A. Silver Label "-WR" dry suits. We even stock a K.A. Silver Label Women's Gore-Tex® Expedition EXP-WR drysuit with a FUD Front Relief Zipper instead of a Drop Seat.
If you don't know whether a dry suit with a Drop Seat Zipper will be comfortable in your kayak, we recommend renting a dry suit with a Drop Seat from us before buying a dry suit -- see our Dry Suit Rental page. If you don't own a kayak yet, be sure to buy one that is Drop Seat compatible -- to see if a kayak is Drop Seat compatible, just sit in it while wearing a dry suit with a Drop Seat zipper.
