TideRace Xceed N8 Hard-Core Carbon/Kevlar

TideRace Xceed N8 Hard-Core Carbon/Kevlar
Introduction
Tiderace Xceed is the fastest sea kayak with a skeg. It's also more maneuverable than any other 18' expedition worthy kayak. What makes it so fast and maneuverable? Hull design and cockpit ergonomics. TideRace kayaks have a unique cockpit design that make them more comfortable and more efficient to paddle. Like all TideRace brand kayaks, Xceeds are built extremely stiff and strong so they can take a lot of punishment. Also new with the introduction of the Xceed is weight saving and impact toughening Vacuum Infused Heat Cured Epoxy construction on all lay-ups from G-Core Glass to Carbon Epoxy.
Besides the standard glass lay-up ("G-Core") TideRace offers two lightweight infusion molded Carbon Epoxy lay-ups. You'll be amazed how much easier it is to lift one of these and load it on your car. The standard fiberglass layup, is the strongest fiberglass lay-up on the market, while the Carbon Epoxy N9 lay-up is extremely light but with the trade-off that it's not designed for hard use but the N8 "Hard-Core" lay-up give you both the weight savings of Carbon/Kevlar plus added strength over the standard glass lay-up! Available in four sizes so everyone from X-Small to XXL can find an Xceed that fits.
Description
Xceed is Tiderace's replacement for their legendary but now discontinued Xplore series sea kayaks. In comparison to the Xplore, the Xceed is lighter, more maneuverable, and has a bit more volume in the ends. If you liked the Xplore you'll love the Xceed. Xceeds have cockpit ergonomics similar to the Xplore albeit a little more conventional (a little lower knee position than the Xplore). This cockpit design is part of what makes Tiderace sea kayaks more efficient to paddle and more comfortable for long days in the kayak. All Xceeds are built using infusion molded, heat cured technology which reduces the weight by several pounds while increasing the toughness and strength. The seams are overlapped for greater strength than butted seam construction and the finished seam has an unmatched smooth clean one piece look to the outside.
Tiderace kayaks are the creation of Aled Williams -- an experienced British kayak designer who created the Rockpool and earlier British expedition sea kayaks. Tiderace Kayaks are the newest, most up to date of all the British style kayaks on the market. Tiderace's goal is to make them the highest quality sea kayaks though the use of superior materials and craftsmanship in construction. The Tiderace kayaks are the result of much experience in designing and building high quality sea kayaks.
As a rough guide to fit, we find:
The Xceed-XS is best suited for paddlers 4' 10" to 5' 6", 100-140 lbs
The Xceed-S is best suited for paddlers 5' 3" to 5' 10", 120-170 lbs
The Xceed is best suited for paddlers 5' 7" to 6' 3", 160-220 lbs
The Xceed-X is best suited for paddlers 5' 9" to 6' 6", 215-250 lbs
All four sizes of the Tiderace Xceed have the looks and proven seaworthiness of the British/Greenland style sea kayak, but updated and without the heavy weight of so many other Brit kayaks. The Tiderace Xceeds have a rounded chine for less drag yet they carve turns and handle well in rough seas. The rounded chine is also less fragile than a harder chine. The Tiderace Xceed comes standard with features such as: forward day hatch in front of the cockpit (a hatch you can actually use while on the water!), a retractable skeg* with state-of-the-art precise, smooth cable control, Kayaksport hatches (oval front and rear hatches plus round front and rear day hatches), front and rear fiberglass bulkheads (two rear bulkheads plus front bulkhead), fiberglass seams, recessed deck fittings, perimeter safety lines, reflective chart holder bungees, keyhole cockpit with good hip and knee braces, and a comfortable adjustable back band.
*A skeg looks like the fin on the bottom of a surf board except on sea kayaks this skeg is designed to retract into a trunk on the bottom of the hull. With the skeg up, Xceeds are very maneuverable; put the skeg down and an Xceed tracks straight even in side wind conditions where most kayaks without rudders weathercock (turn up wind). This combination of good hull design and a retractable skeg is fast making rudders (and all their problems and limitations) obsolete on sea kayaks (at least for people who know how to paddle).
