Current Designs Prana & Prana LV

Current Designs Prana & Prana LV

Introduction

CD is back in the game! Current Designs continues to be decades ahead of others in terms of composite kayak and canoe construction (owned by Wenona canoes), but it's been years since they designed a kayak for the high end performance paddler. The new Prana touring kayak is the first collaborative effort between Danish designer Jesper Kromann-Andersen and Current Designs. Think latest in fast, efficient, maneuverable sea kayak hull design and British style deck features meets the industry leader in light and high quality kayak construction, and you've got the Prana. A beautiful kayak inside and out and made right here in the USA (American flag on rear deck included).

What's aramid? You're probably familiar with one called Kevlar which is a trademarked name for an aramid fiber made by Dupont. Generically these materials are referred to as aramid and they are lighter and stronger than fiberglass. Wenonah/Current Designs has a decades long history of building light weight Kevlar canoes, and they bring that craftsmanship into their CD aramid sea kayaks.

Deceivingly fast, maneuverable, and light! Offered in two sizes Prana and Prana LV.

Description

Prana is a game changer. If you own a heavy sea kayak, you've got to try the Prana. It's versatile, fast, and both a great day tripper and a playful expedition kayak. Prana is a quick and highly maneuverable kayak, with an efficient shape that blasts through the miles. The hull is more stable than its 21 inch beam would lead you to expect, while a hybrid chine and rocker profile makes this 17 foot touring kayak great for all conditions. The Prana comes standard with three bulkheads and four hatches (fore and aft day hatches, fore and aft large storage hatches) and a full accompaniment of safety and comfort features.

Available in fiberglass, aramid, or "Heavy Water (Expedition)" composite constructions with exceptional outfitting throughout. The standard glass construction is strong and among the lightest fiberglass kayak ever, aramid lay-up shaves off a few pounds, but  for those interested in really playing hard with rocks and surf we recommend the Heavy Water lay-up. Also available in an LV (low volume) configuration with a reduced depth of 3/4".

Rough Fit Guide:
